In this 5 hour class we will be making a 1/12th scale sewing box and notions including:

Faux inlayed sewing box, scissor box with lid and scissors, 4 silk ribbon spools, 3 packets of press 

studs, 2 pin boxes, 4 cards of buttons, 8 clothing patterns covers some with tissue patterns inserts,

4 needle packets cards, 2 large pins, 3 measuring tapes and a silk toped pin cushion with pins and

needles.

 

1815 Regency Parisian Bonnet Workshop

Catherine Mather

Catherine will share with the class her skills in millenary and velvet flower making. This elegant bonnet worked over a  millenary block proved, will enabling students to create a fashionable 1815 circuit  Parisian silk   bonnet. The bonnet form  will be pre blocked in white  wool felt giving students  a strong padded form to apply the silk taffeta  covering  and  finish off with a lining of ruched  silk organza.

Bonnet covering and ruched linings are pre stitched, class will involve  some hand stitching. Students will decorate their bonnets with hand made velvet and silk flowers completed in class.

                              Also  demonstration of blocking felt forms.


Bonnet suitable for a 16" to 17" fashion lady doll, a small box will be provided, for the hat’s journey home.

 

Antique style 1/ 3/4’’ Doll House

            Chenille Teddy

In this 5 hour class we will be making a 1/12th scale antique style Teddy:

Plush chenille (pipe cleaner) are shaped and trimmed  to form a  charming  seated  antique style teddy,

finished with a pretty blue bow. Teddys  can be repositioned .

No sewing involved in this class Patterns and instructions will be provided, as well as additional supplies to create a second Teddy at home.

Join Merle as she sharing her knowledge in this 1/12th scale class. Sweetly dressed in cotton and silk, students will complete this wool felt doll and then dress and wig her. Pre cut and ready to assemble. (very little sewing  needed)

In this 5 hour class we will be making a 1/12th  Ladies vintage desk set and ephemera including: desk blotter, desk-tray and set including 2 ink wells and quill and quill stand and blotter, letter stand, pencil stand and pencils, two stamp boxes with stamps, photo in frame, desk calendar, note box with envelops and letters, two floral stationary sets with stand, paper and envelops.

Students will complete a 13 x 6” French Rococo dressing table with wing mirrors made in resin. Catherine has scaled the dressing table to complement her UFDC 2011 French Screen for an 11-12” doll. In class you will learn paint antiquing techniques, apply decal and hand craft miniature tassels. You will complete the table by attaching the wing mirrors with brass hinges.


Students will need to bring, one ½” and one fine paint brush,

fine sewing needle and sharp scissors.

#1 Victorian Millinery Salon

The salon has been designed with lots of nooks and crannys to display the millinery work shop kits we are teaching at this years convention Both Merle and Catherine will be taking you through assembling and painting with added focus on paint techniques that will create  a soft  dimensional  finish to the Salon. The framed  room box has been pre cut from heavy weight card stock and shaped for easy assemblage, with a base coat of paint all ready to detail, allowing  for completion of the room in 4 hours.

The room is lit with natural light from a perspex skylight and highlights the fine filigree arch and glass fretwork winged mirror, both items to be completed and over washed in class.

Chose any two hats from our collection of five Victorian hat designs. an enjoy creating your elegant  braid, feathers and flowered chapeau.

In this 3 hour class we will be making  a Victorian Millinery Salon display in 1/12th scale, perfect to complete a ladies store (1/12th scale) 

Students will cut and assemble 6 hat boxes in a variety of sizers, 2 small & 1 large flower box including pretty paper flowers to fill the boxes, small pin cushion, 6 framed hat images, 6 ribbon spools, 6 net display-cards, vase of hat feathers and a vintage style hat pin display board complete with variety  of hat pins.

Boots are cut and pre stitched ready for assembling, over a provide shoe last. Mid Victoria Silk Satin Corset with Busk Closure

Styled for 16’‘to 18’’Fashion Doll

Students will produce a busk fronted corset, the busk being the ridge loop and post closure. This style of corset was designed to make  corsets considerably easier to put on and take off, laces did not have to be loosened as much as when the corset had to go over the wearer's head and shoulders. Our silk satin corset comes with pre stitched panels and lining, ready to insert busk and decorate with lace and ribbon. The back closure is laced with mock brass eyelet’s.

This style of wired bustle will support most bustle gowns and is the companion workshop to the Victorian corsets class. Bustle comes with pre stitched panel and pre cut graduated wire  frame rods. A draw string waist closure makes for easy sizing on most fashion dolls

In this work shop students will complete a French styled Masquerade Dress Up Costume for a 4 1/2” (12 cm) doll, consisting of a silk tulle skirt, silk panniers, stomacher and felt tricot hat, along with masks, fans, necklace, hankie and shoe buckles etc.The costume and accessories will be arrange in an antique style hinged presentation box, which students will line with silk and braid. #1 Silk Velvet Devoré Cocoon Opera Jacket.

In this class students will learn the technique of devoré, (burning away the velvet pile to form a pattern), due to time factors  the devoré will be a demonstration only. The technique will be staged over the length of the class while  student work on there own pre devoré jacket. The silk/rayon velvet  jackets is fully lined and comes with pre stitched seams and hem, students will hand stitch sleeves armholes, faux fur cuff and collar detail, completing 

the jacket with a bead braid and tassel closure at the hip.

The class includes 3 different style houses and one church, pre cut from card stock.

1 painted table with pre assembled L.E.D lighting (for houses and church), 3 Christmas Carollers,

decorative fencing, assorted Christmas trees

and coloured glitters, trims and micro beads.


Students will assemble the little pre cut houses and church, add window panes and decorate with assorted glitters. Then dress the trees with glitter, micro beads and mini diamanté.  Arranging the beautifully decorated little houses on the table is the final part of the class, then sit back and turn the lights on!

This platinum blond bouffant wig is dressed with an elaborate pompadour front, braids, curls and permanently waved ringlets at the neck. Classic art deco in design, this free standing display comes with an acetate curved cover, ceiling skylight  and battery operated wall mounted art deco light  that will be  made and wired in class.To add luxury and elegance, the stairs and raised

platform are covered in faux tan and black marble, ceiling has stepped cronies, wall paper friezes with fretwork on seat rail, ceiling mounts and detailed surrounding the looking glass mirror. Both Merle and Catherine will be taking you through assembling and painting with added focus on paint and papering techniques. Dressing for the Jazz Age

Silk and lace 1920s flapper dress delicately detailed in fine gold and bronze beads, when completed will be displayed on a mannequin.

Accessorised with shoes, on a display stand, boa,

peacock fan, cloche hat on stand, and lace gloves with counter display hand. The tasseled and draped silk shawl, can be displayed with a sliver or gold purse.

All items are scaled for 1/12th, this is a no sew class.

Petite Day Dream

Antique style double hinged presentation

This pretty box is filled with a dolls dream collection  including spring picture hat, floral head band and box, 

lace handkerchief,  jewellery, set of fans and many paper treats. Box and accessories come pre-assembled, giving

time for learning the finer skills of decorating and embellishing.  A beautiful display for any  4 1/2” doll.

Delicately wired paper flowers and greenery cascade from this vintage style bouquet, designed to drape over the arm of a 1920's bride. Each student will assembly pre cut flowers and greenery, learn how to wire and shape orange blossom sprays, adding  details of pearl and silk ribbon trails to the bouquet. To complete the bridal theme a matching halo of orange blossom, pearl and silk ribbons will be made and displayed in a vintage style display box.


Students will need to bring a long small sharp scissors, clear craft glue, Aleens tacky glue, small ball styles, mouse mat for shaping flowers on and fine wire cutters.

“Here comes the  Bride”

The Alchemy of Dyeing

                             Experiment with  dye treatments for fabric

Catherine with share her tips and tricks for mixing a range of readerly available dye products to achieve antique colours for dress fabrics, ribbons and trims.

Each pupil will experiment with 5 dye treatments with a range of colours, keeping samples and recipes in a informative note book Catherine has written for this workshop.

Acid dye, resist dye, instant set and ink jet printed fabric and hand painting ( each student will print an A4 piece of fabric from a choice of 4 small antique patterned designs available).

Starting with constructing a last to work their

shoes on, drafting a pattern, cutting and shaping the leather uppers, and hand modeling

The Alchemy of Dyeing

                             Experiment with  dye treatments for fabric

Catherine with share her tips and tricks for mixing a range of readerly available dye products to achieve antique colours for dress fabrics, ribbons and trims.

Each pupil will experiment with 5 dye treatments with a range of colours, keeping samples and recipes in a informative note book Catherine has written for this workshop.

Acid dye, resist dye, instant set and ink jet printed fabric and hand painting ( each student will print an A4 piece of fabric from a choice of 4 small antique patterned designs available).

Learning how to shape the soft wire body before adding the pre cut card feet, mittens and printed face then shaping the chubby body. Rugging up the little 3 ½ ‘’ doll in warm cotton batting  clothing, embellishing with glitter snow and sprigs of holly. Either doll can stand or sit in their holly wreath, set with a gold trimmed ribbon for hanging.

Whether you are a novice or experienced sculpture  Catherine work shop is designed to expand your  knowledge  and imagination at what is posable to create in a day with  porcelain clay. Renowned for her figurative art Catherine shares  her technique’s and tricks learnt over twenty years in the doll industry.You  will gain an insight in to creating  proportion and expressions, and find the simplest way to make plaster moulds of your original art. From the nursery toy cupboard comes the Ring Masters top hat, Victorian Harlequin clown and Tumbles the circus monkey. Catherine will share her skills in millenary with each student completing the ring masters pre blocked felt top hat, decorate it with a colourful circus hat band and progress on to assembling  filling and dressing the pre stitched Harlequin clown rag doll. The Harlequin is dressed in a printed silk gown, organza ruffles and  to complete her ensemble a bi-con hat.


Included in the class Tumbles the monkey his fez and bunting, come as a kit to complete at the students leisure, with skills learnt in class.

Description

The focus of the class will be to translate a sketch into a flat pattern, then into a three-dimensional paper pattern ready for fitting on to figurative doll With the diversity of doll styles, students are encouraged to bring their own doll to work on, ensuring a perfect fit. I will be teaching both the French style of draping and traditional pattern making, with techniques that manipulate the bodice, sleeve and skirts enabling many variations that cross both historical eras and fantasy designs.

Shaping and detailing as well as adapting flower patterns to make your own unique blooms.

Dashing through the snow in an ornate French child's sled with a suspended lantern, pre cut in bass wood and card, assembled then worked with gold paint before gloss lacquer is applied to complete the sled.

Accompanying the sled, two Victorian children 3 3⁄4’’ tall Lara and Edwin. Students will learn how to form both soft wired flexible padded bodies, Victorian era cotton batting clothing will be glued to the bodies before completing the doll with a pre formed paper clay and printed silk head and wig. The setting will be assembled on a snow covered display board.

Pre cut sled and lantern ~ bass wood, card.
Two silk faced paper clay children heads, fibre for hair, materials for body, cotton batten ,wire armature, pre cut battling clothing and trims for both children, oval display base.

Daisy the Lamb
Vintage style pull along toy
  Over all finished Height 5.5 cm x 4.5cm

In this class Merle will share her technique for soft woolly fleece, applied to Daisy a 1/12th scale resin lamb. Decorate Daisy with a saddle, halter and wreath of spring flowers before securing her to the vintage style pull a long.

The movable metal wheels and wooden base of the pull along will  be finished with a soft pastel colours and a floral decal, Daisy will make a charming toy for a larger doll or a loverly addition to a dolls house.
